I was thinking recently how so many homeschool-mom bloggers frequently write about food: their favorite recipes, their cooking and baking tips, their food philosophies, and so forth. There are the widely known homeschooling blogs that focus a great deal on recipes and cooking, like The Pioneer Woman, but it seems that even we run-of-the-mill homeschooling bloggers often incorporate discussions around food.
I wondered why this is and I think it's because our kids are with us All. Day. Long. and they eat All. Day. Long. So by necessity we have to put a lot of time and thought in to feeding these always-hungry, ever-present little people, and our like-minded readers are often looking for new ideas and techniques to inspire or educate.
I think also that in homeschooling families, gathering and preparing foods are often viewed as great learning opportunities for our children. Visiting farms, planting and picking vegetables from the garden, helping with food preparation and preservation, reading and following recipes, enjoying meals together--all of these activities provide real-life, hands-on, family-centered learning moments.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. If you have a favorite food-related post or recipe from your blog, please share it with us in the comments below! Or if you have a favorite food blog you enjoy, share that as well! I think we all could use some kitchen encouragement now and then, don't you?
